Behind the Scenes

When we were first told that we needed to have three months of language school, we were also told it would be in a different part of the country...and we also heard that the child care was "iffy."  We didn't want our kids to be in an "iffy" situation after saying goodbye to everything and everyone they knew and be in a holding pattern, without making new friends that would last, for three months.  That's a long time for a kid.  So my mama agreed to come and stay with us for four months - to help with the transition and also be a stable constant for our kids while everything else changed.

She has served behind the scenes and been a huge comfort to our family.  While we have been gone all day at language school, been busy with grocery lists and setting up a household, or been preoccupied with immigration paperwork, she has been steadily keeping our kids.  She's been checking on their well being, teaching Eden school and given extra hugs and kisses on the hard days of transition.

There is something sacrificial about serving behind the scenes in a situation that might not make it on a church slide show.  It might not make the news back home, but it made the world of difference to us as we are trying to serve the Lord while taking care of our family.

Thanks, mama, for supporting us in this immeasurable way.  We love you and miss you already.

Have you ever wanted to go overseas, but didn't know what you might do?  What are you good at?  What are you passionate about?  There may be a role for you, maybe behind the scenes, to do what you love and serve those around you.  Is the Lord asking you to step out of your comfort zone? Are you willing?

Mike & Julie,
What wonderful pictures!! I had the pleasure of taking a crochet class with your Mom a year or so ago. She is such a nice person. So enjoyed talking with her.
